Director Madeleine Sackler
Madeleine Sackler is a film director and producer who got her start in the editing room. She directed her first film, The Lottery, in 2010 after seeing a news piece about the school lottery in New York City. She went on to direct Duke 91 & 92: Back to Back, about her alma mater, one of the most-storied college basketball programs in 2012. She won the News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Arts and Cultural Programming for Dangerous Acts Starring the Unstable Elements of Belarus in 2013, about the power of art in a repressive society. Her most recent films, It’s a Hard Truth Ain’t It and O.G. delve into aspects of incarceration, telling stories of those incarcerated in a variety of ways.
